About the Department

The Civil Engineering department is considered one of the oldest engineering disciplines, Civil Engineering involves planning, designing, and executing structural works. The profession deals with a wide variety of engineering tasks including designing, supervising, and construction activities of public works like roads, bridges, tunnels, buildings, airports, dams, waterworks, sewage systems, ports, etc., and offers a multitude of challenging career opportunities. The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2010. The Department has well-experienced, dedicated faculty members with different fields of specialization Structural Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental, Soil Mechanics & foundation, and Remote Sensing. The Department is well equipped with the latest equipment in the Survey Lab, Strength of Materials Lab, Hydraulics Lab, Concrete & Highway Engg Lab, CADD Lab, Soil Mechanics Lab Environmental Engineering Lab, and Advanced Structural Engg Lab.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Students who graduate from this program will be able

PEO1 To become successful in the field of Civil Engineering that meets the needs of Indian and multi-national companies. 
PEO2 To develop the confidence and ability among students to synthesize data and technical concepts and apply them to real-world problems. 
PEO3 To utilize modern techniques, skills, and mathematical engineering tools for solving problems in Civil Engineering. 
PEO4 To provide students with a sound foundation in mathematical, scientific, and engineering fundamentals necessary to formulate, solve, and analyze engineering problems and to prepare them for graduate studies.

Program Outcomes (POs)

Engineering Graduates will be able to: 

PO1 Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems. 
PO2 Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences. 
PO3 Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations. 
PO4 Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions. 
PO5 Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

Dr. A. Hemalatha obtained her B.E., (Civil Engineering) from Madurai Kamaraj University in the year 1989. Obtained Masters from NIT Trichy in 2004 and secured Ph. D from Anna University Chennai in 2016. She worked as an Assistant Engineer in the Agricultural Department (NWADPRO) Scheme from 2004 to 2005. She joined as an Assistant Professor at the Christian College of Engineering & Technology in the year 2005. In the year 2015, she worked as an Associate Professor at RVS School of Engineering.  Presently she is a Professor at NPR College of Engineering & Technology. She has Published 25 Papers in National and international, Journals and Conferences. She has guided 4 PG Scholars and more than 30 UG Scholars. She received the Innovative Technological Research and Dedicated Teaching Professional Award from the Society of Engineers and Technicians from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She got Life memberships from various Professional Bodies, like ISTE, IGS, ICI, ISH, and IAENG.Fellow member of the Institution of Engineers(FIE). She is doing her Consultancy services for many Construction Industries for their materials and soil testing. She has delivered 9 Guest Lectures and organized more than 20 workshops/seminars/short-term courses in various colleges. She acted as a co-chair in the National conference in NIT Trichy. She has given a keynote address under the topic Digital Transformation in Civil Engineering.” She has been elected as an Executive member of the Geotechnical Society Trichy Chapter. Her area of Research was Geotechnical Engineering which includes Foundation, Soil Structure, and Interaction on Ground Improvement.
